Wooing travellers back to Sabah

SINGAPORE, Nov 5 — Tourism to Sabah definitely took a hit following the Sabah quake. But there’s no reason to avoid the beautiful destination. Seasoned travel host Golding said the best thing anyone can do when it comes to coping with such unforeseen circumstances is to be familiar with basic safety and first-aid techniques.
“Being prepared is the only way to overcome the worst situations,” he added.
Efforts are underway to woo travellers back. A Sabah Food Trail brochure was launched last week in collaboration with six travel agencies. Among the nine trails is the three-day, two-night Sabah Cooking Experience where visitors get to enjoy Hajah Halimah traditional cooking, along with a guided city tour and a visit to the market.
There’s also a four-day, three-night Food in Wonderland package, which gets you guided tours to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kinabalu Park, Desa Cattle Farm, Poring Hot Spring and Sabah Tea Garden on top of market and food experiences. Several hotels are set to open over the next few years in Kota Kinabalu, including a Hilton next year and a Hotel Jen in upcoming development PacifiCity Mall that will be ready in 2018.
Currently, Gaya Island Resort is running a Fabulous 40 promotion where room rates start from only RM480 a night if you book by Nov 6. There is also a Resident’s Package for residents of Singapore and Malaysia. Priced from RM772 per night, it includes all three meals and transfers. ― TODAY
